10 Courses
Food & Nutrition:
Students learn to make informed food choices and learn basic food prep skills. Food labs allow students to obtain hands-on cooking experience.
Grade 11 Courses
Fashion:
Learn fashion design, construction, wardrobe planning to meet family needs. Sewing labs offer hands-on expereience in clothing construction.
Living and Working With
Children: Students examine child behavoiur and child development in a career context. Child observation work at early childhood locations and playschool provide practical experiences.
Parenting:
Students learn how to meet the development needs of infants and children. Practocal projects and the baby-think-it-over doll emphasize the complexity of parenthood.
Managing Personal and Family
Resources: Students learn to manage personal, family, and community resources effectively. Emphasis on importance of community involvement and empathy.
Living Spaces and Shelter: Students study the aspects of housing and elements of interior design. A Project-based approach to learning provides hands-on learning experiences.
Grade 12 Courses
The Fashion Industry: Students study various aspects of the industry, like garment design and production with creative projects. Emphasis on fashion merchandising and creating a portfolio of work.
Food & Nutrition: Students analyze aspects of human nutrition and food preparation. Food demos and independent research prepare students for post-secondary work.
Families in Society: Students learn and consider theories from sociology and psychology used to analze societal issues. Research, critical thinking and effective report writing are emphasized.
Human Growth: Students learn how child psychology is used to analyze intellectual, social and emotional growth. Practical experience is gained working with children at day cares and elementary schools.
