Part 1: Preparing for a Career With Children Resource Binder

(35 marks - Thinking & Inquiry)

For the written report you are responsible for the following information:

Choose and investigate one career that deals with children. (Refer to the ideas previously explored in class or on page 140 of your textbook). The teacher must approve the career you have chosen to research.)

Your binder must include the following information organized under appropreate subheadings:

  1. Job title (1 mark)
  2. Job description (5 marks).
  3. Job emphasis (people, technology or information?) (3 marks).
  4. Work environment (2 marks)
  5. Work hours (1 marks).
  6. Aptitude (what types of skills or abilities would be necessary?) (3 marks)
  7. Training and level of education required (5 marks)
  8. Salary and benefits (2 marks)
  9. Types of experiences that would help one obtain and succeed at the job (5 marks).
  10. Personal skills required Reference Handout (5 marks)
  11. Career outlook and potential for job satisfaction (2 marks)

Part 2: Preparing for a Career With Children: Information Poster

(15 marks - Knowledge & Understanding, 10 marks - Communication)

You must design a poster that displays your research and shows your thorough knowledge of the career you have chosen to research. It must contain written information highlighting main points and clear appropriate images arranged in an appealing creative fashion.

Part 3: Preparing for a Career With Children: Oral Report

(15 marks - Knowledge & Understanding, 10 marks - Communication)

You are responsible for an oral presentation that will demonstrate your understanding of the career you have chosen. Your presentation should be appropriate for the classroom and involve your audience. Your voice must be audible and clear and your speech should be academically appropriate. You should also make use of your information poster to support your oral presentation.

Part 4: Personal Relfection

(5 marks - Communication)

At the end of your reserach you are to write a personal reflection addressing whether or not you feel you are prepared for the type of career you researched and what you have learned that you many not have known before you began the project.
