Labour Behind the Label - Questions

The Company

  1. Address of the importing company. Find it by using the CA or RN number from the label.
  2. Summarize the labour policies of the importing company.
    If the company has no policy summarize the policy of The Gap International. (About 200 words.)
  3. Provide a summary of the social programs of the company (charities they assist, environmental responsibility, etc.) If nothing is listed use Wal-Mart's information. (About 200 words.)

The Country of Manufacture

  1. Include a map of the world. Using proper geographic techniques and show the country (i.e. San Salvador) of origin for your article of clothing and the region of the world (i.e. Central America) where it originated. (You can copy the map from the "Body of Report and Research" page of this webquest.)
  2. Search the internet and summarize the following for the country:
    a) economy (About 200 words.)
    b) labour laws (About 200 words.)

Thinking Canadians

  1. Describe three ways a Canadian citizen might take action against child labour and sweat shops. Explain how each might be effective in improving the lives of the children involved.
  2. Why might stopping all child labour be a bad thing?
  3. What laws in Canada help prevent abuses of child labour?
