Great Cities of the World Adventure Tour

You will produce a PowerPoint travel guide for one of the great cities of world (or region of a country i.e.: southern Italy).

Travel Guide

You will produce a PowerPoint guide to a city that provides an exploration of that city's travel potential. Maps, diagrams, photos, photocopies and written text will provide the reader with a comprehensive view of the city in an easy to use and readable format. Be sure to note cultural, food and dress differences that might be of interest to a traveler.

* The guide must include all the necessary information needed about the cities you are going to visit. Maps of locations, pictures of the sites, railway times and best times to go will also be included. You will also include background information about significant people and events of the area.

Separate slides detailing airfares, climate, clothing, accommodations, currency, bus schedules etc., should be kept together. Prices should be accurate and kept affordable.

Choosing and Investigating a Country In this section you will:

  • 1. Select your country.
  • 2. Write a rationale for your selection.
  • 3. In a PowerPoint presentation map your county (major cities, major water bodies, political boundaries and major landform regions) - history, geography, climate.
  • 4. Include the flag of you country.
  • 5. Include a world map showing the location of your county.
  • 6. Festivals
  • The City Visit

    Select a major city and research and provide:

  • 1. Map
  • 2. Flag
  • 3. History
  • 4. Transportation (subways, etc.)
  • 5. Profile 4 restaurants (pictures)
  • 6. Point out shopping districts
  • 7. Profile 3 hotels (pictures)
  • Attractions

    1. Tourist attractions in the city and a 1 day radius drive. Include pictures, hours of operation, cost, and a brief history.

    2. For one of these tourist attractions , you must complete a detailed investigation that includes the following:

  • a floor plan or map of the attraction.
  • an explanation of why it can be considered to be a tourist attraction.
  • a brief history of the attraction.
  • pictures/photos of the attractions.
  • a description of the economic impact the attraction has on the local community.
  • the cost of admission.
  • the hours and season of operation.
  • PowerPoint Presentation

    Your powerpoint must include all of the following:

  • The currency of the country and its exchange rate compared to the Canadian dollar
  • The cultural aspects of you country, such as:

    food (typical dishes)

    dress

    sports

    languages

    customs

    religions

  • The economic benefits that travel and tourism has for the country and at the same time explain any economic disparities that exist because of travel and tourism.
  • A safety assessment for tourism in the country (risks, hazards).
  • The travel time from Toronto to your country and the cost of a round trip air ticket.
  • Display

    The travel guide will take the form of a PowerPoint presentation. The guide should be set up for easy reading. Headings and layout should be consistent throughout and plays an important part in the finished product.
    Include a section on (travel tips) safety and political conditions in that particular country. Check Canadian (Consular Affairs Bureau of the Department of Foreign Affairs) or U.S. government web sites.

    Use pictures sensibly.

    Presentation to class:

    Your PowerPoint will be from the point of view of one of the following:

  • a person who has been there telling about it.
  • a travel agent promoting a trip.
  • a representative of that area promoting tourism.
